Navigating the 10 Steps Korean Skincare Routine

Korean skincare is one of the fastest growing and one of the most famous out there, and when we thought (just like everyone else) it was some trend that will go away soon, we’ve been proven wrong.

This trend is here to stay.

As promised in the last blog, we will be guiding you through the Korean 10 steps skincare routine.

The 10 steps Korean skincare is an art and in fact we come to master this art (and trust us, it is an art) ever since our first encounter with Korean skincare. Are we Michael Angelo of Korean skincare yet? No we are not, but we will help you navigate the world of the 10 steps Korean Skincare which we have come to love.

Step 1: Oil Cleanser

This can either be in the form of an oil or cleansing balm. They are applied on dry skin to remove makeup and oil-based products such as sunscreen and the pollution which the skin might have encountered during the day. Shop our range of oil cleanser here.

Step 2: Foam Cleanser

Foam cleanser takes off the remaining stuff which is left behind after your first cleanse. Foam cleansers are generally water-based cleansers which are applied to wet skin and foams up when massaged into the skin – this removes all the left-over impurities (dirt and the days sweat, be gone!).  Give example of our best selling oil cleanser e.g. foam cleansers like the Innisfree morning cleanser are very  popular. Shop our range of foam cleanser here.

The method of cleansing with oil cleanser and foam cleanser is called the “double cleansing”. The double cleansing method is highly recommended if you wear sunscreen and makeup to ensure that all the grime and dirt and any left over make up and sun screen are totally off the skin, therefore ensuring that the pores are not clogged.

Step 3: Exfoliator

Exfoliation ensures that all the dead skin on the surface of the skin is removed to reveal a renewed, healthier, brighter and glowy skin. For sensitive skin, it is advised that exfoliation is only done once a week, for every other skin type, we recommend that this step is done 1-2 times a week to avoid over-exfoliating your skin. Shop our range of exfoliator here. For those lazy days, where you just want to exfoliate while you are Netflixing, we recommend Neogen Bio-Peel Gauze.

Step 4: Toner

This step really refreshes the skin and prepares it for the other goodies which will go onto the skin after this step, so think of a porous surface which is ready to drink up all the other good products which will be applied onto the skin afterwards. Shop our range of toners here.

Step 5: Essence

Yay! We are halfway there.  Whilst all the other steps are just as important, when it comes to Korean skin care, the essence is really the soul and life of the party (if Korean skincare were a party, we would definitely like to be the essence). Essences are classed as the most important part of the routine, whilst they are similar to serums and ampoules, they have a runnier consistency which means they actually come out as a texture of a toner. Essences are built to target issues such as wrinkle and fine lines. Shop our range of essences here.

Step 6: Serums and Ampoules

All my people you battling with hyperpigmentation? Then this is for you, please form an orderly queue (hold on let us join the queue as well, OK! Space secured on the queue we can continue). Serums are generally applied after the essence to help reduce hyperpigmentation and brown spots. They are made of smaller molecules which are more concentrated and have the ability to penetrate into the skin to deliver the high concentration of the active ingredients which they are formulated with. Serums have high concentrated active ingredients like Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid which are targeted at skin brightening and dry skin respectively such as the Neogen Dermalogy Vitamin C Serum and The Plant Base Waterfall Moist Balanced Hyaluronic Acid 100  Shop our range of serums here.

Step 7:  Face Mask

This is where we are doing our little dance – all the way to the living room to put our feet up.

So we would like to say facemasks are for relaxation purposes after a hard long day, but we would be wrong to say that.

Facemasks are packed with essences which target your skincare concern. They come packed in different essences and there are different types of facemasks for various skin types. So have you dry skin? There is a facemask for that, want to brighten your dull skin? There is also a facemask for that  and many more– we are sure you get the gist. As facemasks are full of essence or serum, this is one part of the routine you can choose to cut out of your routinebut why would we, when we can binge on different shows whilst we are looking like a ghost and scaring our whole household, what could be better? Shop our range of Facemasks.

Step 8: Eye Cream

You know that puffiness and dark circle that seems to have been living under your eyes since you could remember? The eye cream could totally improve that.

Step 9: Face Cream

I bet you kept thinking wait a minute, when are we getting to the face cream?  Well we are here now.

This is one of the most essential skin care products no matter what your skincare routine is like and for both day and night routine, this is a staple. The face cream essentially locks in all the products we have used from step 3 till now and also provides hydration to the skin.  For night-time routines, this would be the last step of your skin care, but the daytime routine has one more essential step which is non-negotiable, so drum roll please whilst we progress to the final and last step. Shop our range of face cream here.

Step 10: Sunscreen

If you will forget anything before leaving the house, it definitely shouldn’t be sunscreen application. Whether it’s a sunny day or a no sun-day, applying the right sunscreen is important to prevent ultraviolet light from penetrating your skin, hence improving any hyperpigmentation. We recommend to wear factor 30 or higher for the ultimate protection. We will cover the different types of skincare in our next blog and their benefits and disadvantages. Shop our award wining  sunscreen.

If you made it to the end of this blog, we hope you have learnt all you need to to start your journey to an healthy skin with the Korean 10 steps routine.

Ultimately, the 10 step Korean skincare is a lifestyle change which we have tried and tested and can confirm visible results to show for it and if you have got it you get to flaunt it - so flaunt that beautiful skin of yours.

Our little disclaimer: 10 Step Korean Skincare is a lifestyle and mindset change that will totally take your skin to the next level, it is a selfcare time which we are totally subscribed to-a guilty pleasure not to be missed.
